With just one week to go, and 1.001 things still to be done and organized, the tension is mounting. I am taking a break from trying to do everything at once and I would like to use this moment to thank a number of people who have helped tremendously during the preparations for our journey.
Of course there is always the risk of forgetting to mention someone, please forgive me if this is the case. I would personally like to thank Tjeerd de Jong, the fysio who, against all odds, got me as ready as possible to be able to leave on time. Joan, a real inventor when you need one, thanks a million for making the bicycle-dynamo-driven-camera-battery-charger without which we would not be able to publish any photographs on this site, and that really would be a pity. We really look forward to cycling with you in Japan. Tiny (Gerda’s mum) thank you very much for all the sewing you did to keep us warm at night. Aeila and Wouter thank you both very much for your moral and practical support and for helping Simone get ready to go, we could not have done it without you. Katinka thanks a million for looking after the plants and the post (and all the parcels) and for being a wonderfull next door neighbour, and Yvonne thanks for being a great chauffeur and a great friend. Marco Meijerink supplied us with the beautiful photographs you see at the top of each page and for us it is an honour to be able to display his work. Thanks go to Jan-Willem and Eric at the two bike shops where we purchased our bikes, for their service, advice and their commitment to support us during the trip.
The preparations for a trip of this length are numerous, especially the logistics take a lot of careful consideration. Furthermore the administration involved when leaving the country is of an enormous magnitude, but we’re getting there. It’s going to be great to jump on the bikes on April Fool’s Day, and leave all our worries behind us……………
